Football is ready to take the stage in Qatar.
FIFA World Cup - Qatar 2022 is around the corner.
After probably one of the most impressive opening ceremonies football fans have ever seen, Qatar and Ecuador will be the first two teams to clash at the Al Bayt Stadium.
It’s the First FIFA World Cup held during Winter.
Held from mid-November through mid-December instead of June-July, fans and teams alike will be expecting temperatures that can go up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Qatar is the first middle eastern country to host a World Cup
The very first in the Middle East and the third Asian country to host a World Cup. Only Japan and South Korea managed to co-host it once before, back in 2002.
Teams can substitute five players during a game
Each team can substitute five players in a game, up from the three substitutions allowed previously.
But all five substitutions have to be made in a maximum of three windows across the 90 minutes.
For the first time in history, the Men’s World Cup will have female referees
The three women who are making history are Yamashita Yoshimi, Salima Mukansanga and Stephanie Frappart.
A total of 36 selected referees from all over the world will be present in Qatar.
Semi-automatic offside and goal-line technology
Each match will feature semi-automatic offside and goal-line technology. These technologies have been successfully tested at numerous events and live at FIFA tournaments, including FIFA Club World Cup 2021 and FIFA Arab Cup 2021.
